Volunteering

Thanks for your willingness to help out in our classroom. The amount of help I need depends on my particular workload each school year, as well as the needs of my students. Some years require more assistance than others. Here are a few key facts to know before volunteering:

  • Volunteer tasks for the school year will begin no sooner than our first field trip in mid-October.
  • All volunteer time slots must be pre-arranged with me prior to volunteering.
  • All volunteers must be 100% respectful to the students in my class (and their family members) at all times.
  • Each volunteer must have cleared and confirmed background check approval through Battle Ground School District. For more information on background checks, please visit the district site.

Volunteer Binder & Basket:
A list of volunteer tasks can be found in the volunteer binder behind my desk. There is a list of duties that need to be fulfilled, and these duties are focused on specific classroom needs (including a due date). All materials needed to complete the tasks will be in the volunteer basket. This system allows volunteers to enter the room without interrupting lessons and work time. Please check the volunteer notebook and volunteer basket for specific tasks that need to be taken care of the day you volunteer.

Classroom Helpers:
Helping in the classroom can take the form of organizing weekly reading packets, collecting field trip forms, chaperoning a field trip, reading with a small group of students, or playing reading and/or math games.

To-Go Helpers:
Want to help out but are short on time during the school day? Please consider volunteering in the following ways:
  • taking home seasonal/holiday shapes to cut (template, paper, and scissors are provided)
  • joining us for field trips
  • sorting monthly book club orders
  • washing dress up clothes from imaginary play area
  • make a batch of play-dough (all materials and recipe provided)
  • prep classroom project materials in the conference room
  • make copies in the office
  • check table baskets to ensure glue bottles are full and markers work
  • trim and sort Box Tops for Education
  • participate in collecting auction contributions
  • pick up seasonal books on hold at the public library (educator library card provided)
  • clean classroom items during  flu season (blocks, manipulatives, imaginary play area props, wipe shelves, etc.)
  • scrub classroom tables and chairs on a Saturday (quarterly task - before or after school)
  • clean the classroom fish tank or turtle terrarium before or after school
Have a talent not reflected above? Let me know. I would love to make room for your desire to help.
